Prepping for the holidays..... FOOD

Are the holidays causing you stress?  Worried about gaining weight?  I have a few tips to hopefully help ease your mind and waistband.

Today’s topic-

FOOD:

  1.  Don’t restrict yourself.  There are no taboo foods.  We tend to set ourselves up for so much stress and drama which can lead to failure.  If we stress on foods we can’t eat and you find yourself taking a bite it can lead to the snowball effect of self hate.  “I’m so weak I can’t say no”, “I already messed up I might as well forget trying to lose weight.”  Those kinds of statements do not help in any way, shape, or form.  Be kind to yourself.

  1. Be mindful of what you eat.  Don’t just shovel the food in quickly.  Love grandma’s special stuffing?  Or Aunt Sue’s homemade fudge?  Go ahead and enjoy it BUT taste it.  When you take a bite really pay attention to the bite of food and how it tastes.  It's not going to run off your plate so no need to treat it like it will.  Take a bite and set down your fork.  Chew and swallow before taking another bite.  Been waiting all year for that fudge?  Go for it.  Be mindful and chew it though.  Don’t race to shove it in your mouth.  I’m willing to bet you won’t eat as much if you really take a step back and enjoy the taste and smell.

Change hands in between each bite.  Normally a right handed eater?  Switch to the left hand and take the next bite.  Then sit down your fork and take the next bite with the right.  This will force you take your time

  1. Fill up on proteins and veggies the first go round.  Proteins will fill you up quicker and the veggies contain fiber which is also more filling.  Go back for the carbs and mashed potatoes if you are stil hungry.

  1. Don’t graze.  If you are going to eat something put it on a plate so you are able to see what you are eating.

  1. Drink water!  Drink water!  Drink water!  Did I mention drink water?  This is to not say don’t enjoy a glass of wine, beer, or liquor.  Just drink water too.

Above all else enjoy this time of the season.  Enjoy your friends and family.  Thanksgiving is a time of giving thanks.  What are you grateful for?
